IDEO visit

I visited IDEO by a help of Steve and met Dave, Senior Director of IDEO. He talks about IDEO's design thinking history, how the method is created, and how to realize the method in the company. After the meeting with Dave, Rickson, chief technologies is kind enough to show the IDEO's products, and work environment with a lot of insights.

At the entrance of IDEO, the following booth is placed, which has round memo pad at the center of seats.

IDEO's kitchen products. The mixer, which is divided by the middle of wires, is easy to clean up.

IDEO observes extreme users, like young, old, professional, etc...

IDEO's design thinking method is open provided as pdf at a web site(I did not find out yet). IDEO creates not only technologies, but also non-tech based process improvement, such as card based checking board to transfer jobs to the late shift worker at a hospital.

The following case is interesting. IDEO's success is an improvement of a blood gathering process. From the red cross business perspective, the box bellow was not realized as a business due to cost. Design thinking methods reduces the failures, but project successes depend on the company's limitation, which IDEO could not control sometime.

The following is a toy to create a stuffed animal using a printer.  Look at the following bicycles. IDEO's products are simple, and easy to use utilizing technologies behind.

Not only creating products, IDEO is helping to transform eating habits. Teaching what are vegetables, how to cook, ... For Africa, robust, simple, and cheep goods is provided.

Outside of the office, cherry blossom trees are beautiful. It was good to walk around at Palo alto since the whether is comfortable, a sunny day.

IDEO's office has a lot of green, high ceiling, free atmosphere. From the work environment, I think it is natural that these product innovation comes. IDOE is a good company!
